An Inspirational Learning Environment For All

Cathnor Park Children’s Centre

Cathnor Park Children’s Centre

Cathnor Park Children’s Centre is here to help every child get a good start in life. We are a year-round, one-stop shop for a wide range of services that support parents, expectant parents, and children in the Foundation Years (from birth to five years old). Our purpose built building and beautiful outdoor space means that we can offer the very best in environment.

Cathnor Park Children’s Centre was previously a stand alone centre managed by the local authority. During the reorganization of Children’s Services across the country in 2011 Vanessa Nursery took on the running of the centre to keep services available for local families. Over the past three years we have worked hard with our partner services in health to create a sustainable early years centre helping to meet the needs of local families. On 1st April 2014 we were designated HUB status and are currently building our services to reflect the National Children’s Centre Core Purpose.

The services we offer include:

Play and early learning activities – for example, Baby Café, Messy Play, Music, cook and eat groups, play sessions with a focus on developing parental input into children’s learning.

Early Education and Childcare

Our nursery school offers free places for children aged three and four years old and our Pre-School free places for children meeting the criteria of the 2 year offer. We plan to rebuild our links to the accredited childminders in our ward building a network that can offer high quality, flexible childcare for children from birth to five years (and older) whose parents are working or studying.

You can book a crèche place (subject to availability) to help you attend children’s centre training or appointments.

Before and after school and holiday places

We can help you find before-and after-school and holiday places for older children.

Family and parenting support

Courses, workshops and a chance to discuss issues are offered to parents and carers, with ideas for ways to improve family relationships. We also offer individual support and outreach services from our family mentor David Taylor. There are clear routes to the localities service.

Health services for children and families

We offer: pre-birth care and breastfeeding support; health and development checks with a midwife or health visitor; development and feeding advice and support, and referrals to health services like speech and family therapy, psychology and the nutrition team. We provide space for targeted speech & language therapy session to help reduce the waiting time for many parents and work closely with the Child Development Service and Cheyne Child Development Centre to offer sessions at the centre for both children and their families. The My Time Active (Boost) team are based a the centre offering advice on nutrition and healthy living to children and families, primary school children and adults through their personal health trainers.

Work and training support

We offer support to find training or employment. You can book to attend advice sessions from training agencies and Jobcentre Plus to improve your skills and help you find work, as well as a range of further training courses. We provide women only ESOL sessions for levels 1,2 & 3 with crèche places for many.

The Children’s Centre is overseen by the Governing Body, including parent governors. We welcome parent feedback and suggestions: we want parents to shape our services, not just use them.
