Vanessa Nursery School is a maintained nursery school in Shepherds Bush for children aged three and four years old. Our unique learning environment includes a free flow nursery room, outdoor space and swimming pool. The Nursery School’s staff team consists of specialist teachers working with nursery early years educators and teaching assistants (who are all qualified to level 3 or above). Our headteacher is Michele Barrett and our deputy headteacher is Sian Thompson. Both have many years of successful senior leadership experience in London schools. Our governing body works to ensure that Vanessa Nursery School sets high standards by ensuring continuous improvement, helping us to work closely with parents and the local community, and by planning for our future. In the foundation years from birth to five years old, children are learning mostly through play and real experiences, both indoors and outside. The Department for Education says that at the end of the Early Years Foundation Stage, “children should start school healthy, happy, communicative, sociable, curious, active, and ready and equipped for the next phase of life and learning.” Our 2014 inspection report from Ofsted states that “Children’s achievement is outstanding. Children of all abilities and backgrounds settle quickly and make rapid gains in their learning and development. They leave the nursery demonstrating skills and abilities above those typical for four year olds. We work closely with parents and carers to support every child as an individual. We help every child to grow up feeling confident about their identity, in a spirit of friendship. We value the diversity in our local community. The Nursery School is overseen by the Governing Body, including parent governors, who have overall responsibility for ensuring that the school offers the very best standards of early education and care.
